The Usui Healing System is a beautiful hands on energy balancing practice, developed in Japan in the early 20th century.

Traditional Japanese Reiki (TJR) Classes and sessions, as offered in Toronto, by Catherine Tammaro, utilise the system brought to the west by Dave King from Japan in 1995. TJR is based on the teachings of the Vortex Reiki School in Japan. Dave King spent some time with Toshitaka Mochizuki, Ayumi Sato and Dr Matsuoka, all teachers of the Vortex Reiki School.

Dave was able to access this material as a result of his extensive research and training spanning some thirty years, commencing in 1971 in Morocco, with Yuji Onuki. Dave and Shen Lissa (Melissa Riggall) met Onuki-San during a qigong convention there. In 1995, they further had an opportunity to expand their understanding of Usui's teachings in rural Japan when they chanced upon Tatsumi-sensei, who had studied with Chuujirou Hayashi from 1927 to 1931.

Traditional Japanese Reiki is an application of Usui-Do. Usui-Do represents the early teachings of Mikao Usui. The Usui-Do Eidan was founded by Tenon-In, a Buddhist lay nun who studied with Usui from 1921 to 1926. It is currently maintained by a third participant in the 1971 Morocco trip - Lin Tan-Wu (aka George Mullen). At this point in time, only Dave King and Laurie Anne King are authorized to present Usui-Do in its 1925 form known as Usui Teate.

Catherine trained with Dave and Adrienne Bouchard in Traditional Japanese Reiki and prior to and after, in other systems and is currently offering Traditional Japanese Reiki treatment sessions and classes at Lifecycles Wellness in downtown Toronto (and other locations). Catherine was taught in the Western Traditions of Reiki by Lani Kaito of The Reiki Alliance (1991) and to Western Master level by Eveline Fleurmann, of Toronto (1994). Catherine's intense desire to go deeper into the system was fulfilled when a friend put Catherine and Dave in touch in 1997.

Catherine has been practicing and teaching The Usui Healing System for seventeen years. She would like to extend her gratitude to all of her Teachers and health practitioners, including The Venerable Khenpo Sonam Rinpoche, Shakya Dorje, Ani Jamyang, Sat Dharam Kaur, Dr. Vera Tarman, Tanya Smith, Doctor of Chinese Medicine and all associated with The Usui Healing System; particularly Dave King. Also: Laurie Anne King, Bruce Davis, Adrienne, Lani and Eveline.

Catherine thanks her many clients and students over the years for their extensive explorations of Reiki and other healing modalities and teachings ~ and their substantial generosity in doing so.

Class schedules will be posted on this website and sessions are available for individuals at Catherine's studio/treatment space in Toronto and at Lifecycles Wellness. Catherine will travel to hospitals to offer chi and has a portable table. Please contact Catherine using the link provided for session and class fees.
